Mastering Portrait Photography

Explore the technical and emotive use of lighting in one of the largest and best equipped professional photographic studios in Melbourne, here at PSC.

Learn to master the key elements of studio portrait photography, including lighting styles, posing, framing and shooting techniques – from an industry professional with extensive studio photography and teaching experience.

Explore how to work with lighting systems, light modifiers, and as part of a team to produce classically and contemporary referenced portrait photographs. Gain insights into creating your own studio environment.

In this course participants will:

  • engage with a range of lighting styles to create character and mood
  • analyse and apply classical and contemporary portrait conventions
  • develop skills to create visual themes and produce a range of dynamic portraits



Entry Requirements

Intermediate level of competence with camera operations.

Have a camera (DSLR or Mirrorless one able to tether to a Mac Computer using Capture One Software, check your camera here),a hard drive & a tether cable.
