Rob’s abiding passion for photography started very young. As a schoolboy, he found photography was a way of exploring a larger world. Portraits of friends were printed in the garage loft which was set up like a mini-studio and darkroom. School projects were shot on film, stills and movies.
After school, he backpacked solo in the mountains of Java and Sabah (Malaysia), photographing people in wild places which he never knew existed before returning to Australia to complete his photography qualifications and commence his photography career.
Rob went on to become a very successful advertising and commercial photographer, shooting with talented art directors for Melbourne’s leading advertising agencies. He also established and ran the renowned 7Phoenix Studios in South Yarra, a co-working studio, which supported a community of talented photographers in the genres of fashion, food and automotive photography for many years.
Rob now continues his freelance career, combined with teaching and more time for travel photography – a passion that he says has never left him. “I still enjoy trekking in the remote mountains of Nepal and India as well as New Zealand and Tasmania. The fragile nature of these unique landscapes is what I love to capture.”
