Photography industry awards

PSC students and teachers are often winners of the prestigious AIPP Photography Awards at both state and national level.

PSC teachers and graduates are also regularly involved in exhibitions of their work both nationally and internationally.

2009

Photography industry names Photography Studies College the 2009 Tertiary Institute of the Year.

Photography Studies College (PSC) has scooped the education awards in the national photography industry awards for 2009.

At the gala Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards night in Sydney on 29th June, Australia's peak photography industry association, the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) awarded PSC the 2009 AIPP Tertiary Institute of the Year, and awarded PSC student Alf Caruana the 2009 AIPP Australian Student Photographer of the Year. These two education and training awards are sponsored by Kodak Professional Imaging Solutions.

The annual event recognises excellence in all areas of commercial photography, including photojournalism but also acknowledges excellence in the education and training sector of the industry. Eligible entrants for the photographic education awards come from the university and vocational education sector right across Australia

In accepting the awards, PSC's Managing Director Julie Moss acknowledged the enormous change the industry has undergone in recent years, and the huge challenges this poses for any college in keeping abreast of these changes. "One of the key challenges facing the industry is finding skilled teachers who are across all the latest technologies, not to mention the huge cost involved in funding these technologies. This award is a great acknowledgement of the dedication of our staff and the determination of our students to being the best", she said.

Former PSC student, Yervant Zanazanian was the winner of the 2009 Highest Scoring Wedding Print (Wedding Photojournalistic) Award and the 2009 AIPP Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year.

The PSC award winning entries will be featured in the new mid year exhibition as part of the PSC Open Day on Sunday 16th August 10am - 4pm.

Now in his final year of the course Steve combines his photography with work commitments and has found that he really looks forward to his time at PSC. "You know, mixing with very creative students and talented lecturers is very inspirational. You see a continual flow of photographic work and that's an excellent way of getting the creative juices happening."
