To mark its 75th anniversary the Museum of Modern Art in New York has republished Evans’ groundbreaking work and is staging an accompanying exhibition of his arresting images.

This exhibit commemorates Evans’ show at the MoMA 75 years ago, which was also the museum’s first one-person photography show. Along with the 1938 exhibit, Evans released an acclaimed photography book, Walker Evans: American Photographs. The 60 prints featured in today’s exhibit revisit the book that both asserted his talent and popularized photographers’ use of the literary medium.
