Great to have all students beginning or back at PSC for 2011! There’s already a lot happening in the classes. Thanks to the PSC graduates who have contributed their insights and experience to students in recent weeks and the BBQ on the Yarra provided a great opportunity for everyone to get together. Two weeks ago new full time students had the opportunity to meet second years in an informal get together – sharing thoughts, strategies and popcorn!
Having graduated from PSC in 2006 gaining the Highest achievement in the commercial major award, Zoe worked as a freelance assistant for 4 years with commercial photographers in Melbourne, New York and Sydney. Now she has built up her own clients and says, “when I’m not working for clients I’m doing promotion and meeting with agencies. If I have any time left after that I work on my folio.” See more of Zoe’s at www.zoewetherall.com
Bill has been involved with PSC as a guest lecturer and external industry assessor over many years. This year we’re very pleased to welcome Bill as part of our first year teaching team. In 2010, Bill’s work featured prominently in two books: Twenty-Five Years of Australian Geographic Photography (he has been a contributing photographer since the journal’s first issue in 1986) and Focus on Australia, a multiphotographer project designed to provide a portrait of contemporary Australia through the eyes of users of Panasonic’s LUMIX range of digital cameras. He also was unit stills photographer on the set of Small Time Gangster, a TV series set to screen on the Movie Network in April. His photographs from an earlier book, Local Colour, were recently exhibited at the Melbourne Hilton at South Wharf.
PSC is very pleased to welcome Peter Hatzipavlis as our new Digital Centre Production Manager. Peter comes to us from Prisms Imaging with extensive photographic and digital imaging expertise and a wealth of experience in digital printing, digital camera, web technologies and advanced computer and software solutions. He has a passion for all things photographic and a thorough understanding of the industry. Peter is keen to keep abreast of the latest trends and future forecasts within the photographic digital imaging industry and relishes the opportunity to take on this new and exciting ‘hands-on’ role at PSC.
Up against students from other Melbourne institutions, we congratulate Graeme on winning this competition. He was thrilled saying, “I found the Canon Photo5 Competition a great creative experience to be involved in. It really tested my mind to different avenues I hadn’t thought of before. It pushed my creative boundaries and I came up with images I never thought possible. I’d like to thank Canon, Sarina and PSC for the opportunity.”
EOS Photo5 is Canon’s annual creative photography competition that begins with a brown box. Inside there were 5 separate photographic briefs to challenge photographers and this is the first year of a separate student category.
